With wonderfully romantic lyrics and inspired orchestral flourishes, Montreal-born Rufus Wainwright is unique among the artists of his generation for his lush, theatrical pop sound. The son of folk luminaries Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, Rufus was nominated for a Juno as Most Promising Young Artist, while his 'I'm A-Runnin' was concurrently nominated for a Genie for Best Song in a Film.
Rufus Wainwright is to launch his first ever opera, Prima Donna at the Prestigious Sadlers Well in London.
The opera will tell the story of a fading Parisian opera singer and will be sung entirely in French. Cast members include Janis Kelly, Rebecca Bottone, William Joyner and Jonathan Summers.
