UPDATE: RICK WAKEMAN ANNOUNCES A SATURDAY NIGHT SHOW @ THE ROYAL FESTIVAL HALL - BUY YOUR TICKETS NOW TO GUARANTEE YOURSELF A PLACE WITHIN THE FIRST 10 ROWS!
Be there at the final UK performance of the former Yes keyboard player’s epic orchestral rock piece, to celebrate his 70th birthday.
This concept work was originally premiered at Royal Festival Hall in January 1974.
The live recording that was released three months later became a landmark in the history of progressive rock, selling over 15 million copies and nominated for an Ivor Novello Award.
As well as his association with Yes, Wakeman has enjoyed a long, successful career as a solo artist and with his band the English Rock Ensemble.
He has written film scores for the likes of Ken Russell and built a reputation as a witty guest and host on TV and radio, most notably in the Grumpy Old Men series.
In 2017, he made British chart history when his Piano Portraits record became the first solo piano instrumental album to enter the UK’s Top 10 on release – a feat he then repeated with last year’s Piano Odyssey.
Now he returns to his prog rock roots, marking the 45th anniversary of Journey to the Centre of the Earth by performing the work in its entirety (including the missing music that was added for the sell-out 2012 UK tour) in two final performances.
He is joined onstage by the Orion Orchestra, the English Chamber Choir and the ERE, and special guests Alfie Boe and Robert Powell.
